‘Night Mares in Paradise’ a solo exhibition by Elmarie van Straten opening 26th October 2024 at the Gallery at Grande Provence.
This exhibition explores the duality of the world we inhabit, often seen as a divine paradise. However, upon closer inspection, subtle hints of a dystopian reality emerge—an undercurrent of crime and unsettling tension. What initially appears idyllic begins to reveal darker shadows, especially when we pause and linger too long.
The "Mares" in the title symbolizes horses grazing in an otherworldly utopia, yet not entirely of this world. As you observe, the imperfections within the seeming perfection slowly come into view.
