The Estate
When Alex van Heeren purchased the property in 1984, he commissioned Virginia Fisher to create an interior to complement and enhance this extraordinarily beautiful location.
Framing the entry road are rows of vineyards, heavy with the promise of next year’s vintage framed by the manicured precision of beautifully clipped hedges. Young olive trees and ancient oak trees are silhouetted against the rugged mountains beyond in this Arcadian estate, just under an hour by car from Cape Town.
Design
New Zealand-born interior designer Virginia Fisher drew the public’s attention with her very first project, HukaLodge, Taupo, New Zealand. When Alex van Heeren purchased the property in 2004, he commissioned Virginia Fisher to create an interior to complement and enhance this extraordinarily beautiful location.
The Gallery
The custom designed gallery is certainly one of South Africa’s most beautiful and prestigious galleries. It specialises in contemporary work by the finest artists in the country over a variety of media but is especially renowned for the superb quality of its sculpture.
There is an annex which sells smaller works, decorative objects and some carefully selected African Artefacts.
The Gallery is under direction of Jean-Marié Olivier and curated by Pieter Lategan.
