An exhibition by a group of well-known artists from Gauteng will open at The Gallery, Grande Provence on 1 June 2008. The participating artists are: Paul Boulitreau (sculptures from his “Malice” series), Gordon Froud (wall based and in the round sculpture), Ulricke Lourens (video and photography), Rosemary Marriott (moths and drawings), Jacki McInnes (sculpture and drawings), Musha Nelhueni (ribbon and text based corsets), Angus Taylor (sculpture) and Dianne Victor (drawing and printmaking).
Titled “Decadence at Grande Provence”, the theme of the exhibition will depict the process of decline and decay in society, especially in its morals and will dwell on an artistic interpretation of self indulgence and excess, coupled with the sense of grandeur and nostalgia for a bygone era. This is a familiar theme in the visual arts which, inter alia, found strong expression in France at the end of the nineteenth century. The exhibition makes for an interesting combination of media and fascinating interpretation by the individual artists of this theme.
The exhibition will run until 9 July, and can be viewed daily, Monday to Sunday, from 09h00 to 17h00. For further information and images, contact by email. To arrange a preview, please call the gallery on +27 (0)21 876 8630 to make an appointment.
