Jenny Groenewald was a founder member of TBWA Hunt Lascaris – one of South Africa’s greatest advertising success stories (three times Winner of the International Advertising Agency of the Year Award and the prestigious Agency of the Year Award). Groenewald has been painting with the same dedication she applied to advertising for the past seven years on a small farm on the edge of the Karoo. Her works are in numerous local and international private and public collections and 4 (four) of her works hang in Tuin-Huis.
“We are a nation of the soil – the colours of both Nguni and Damara are symbolic of South Africa as a nation; as diverse and strong as the indigenous animals, as beautiful and unique as each individual pattern on their skins, we can withstand extremes and survive.” - Jenny Groenewald
Groenewald is mesmerized by the Karoo landscape, the faces and animals of those who inhabit this unique, stark part of our country. On one level, her paintings are about colour, composition and proportion, but many of the beasts look back and could be asking questions (about ourselves and the environment) we have chosen not to answer…..
