An exhibition by three well-known South African artists will open at The Gallery, Grande Provence on 20 July 2008. The participating artists are: Philip Badenhorst (paintings), Rina Stutzer (paintings) and Helen Vaughan (ceramics).

Philip Badenhorst was born in 1957 and he was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Visual Arts, University of Pretoria. He is an exponent of Romantic Expressionism and in his most recent work he uses a solitary figure in an open landscape to explore the themes of loneliness and estrangement. Badenhorst’s career as painter includes 33 solo exhibitions and he participated in more than 100 group exhibitions in South Africa and abroad since 1981. « Detail from With love to myself (2008) |

Rina Stutzer was born in 1976 and she studied at the University of Pretoria where she received a MA (Fine Arts) degree in 2007. She taught part-time at the Open Window Academy and the University of Pretoria. Since 1998 she has participated in several exhibitions across South Africa and was awarded the First Prize in the Ekurhuleni National Fine Art Award in 2007. « Detail from Chase from the Pack Series |

Helen Vaughan received the National Higher Diploma in Textile Design from the Cape Technikon with Honours in 1988. She was a part-time lecturer at the Cape Technikon’s Textile Department during 1997-1999, and has exhibited widely in South Africa and abroad (France and the USA). She is currently running a ceramic studio in Cape Town, creating individually crafted ceramics. |
The exhibition will run until 10 September, and can be viewed daily, Monday to Friday from 09h00 to 17h00 and Saturday and Sunday from 10h00 to 18h00. For further information and images, contact gallery@grandeprovence.co.za
