DRAWN THREADS: NEW EXHIBITION TO OPEN AT THE GALLERY, GRANDE PROVENCE

January 2008 - An exhibition by Jacqueline Crewe-Brown is scheduled to open at The Gallery at Grande Provence Estate, Franschhoek at 11h00 on Sunday 27 January and run until 5 March 2008. The exhibition will be opened by Karen McKerron with whom Crewe-Brown had a major solo exhibition in 2000.

Born in England, Jacqueline Crewe-Brown grew up in eastern Africa (Uganda and Kenya) and studied at the Michaelis School of Fine Art. During the late ‘70s she lived in London where she took up lithography and painting. After a period of working and exhibiting her large scaled appliqués and painted wall hangings, she collaborated with architects and decorators like Stephen Falcke.

‘Drawn threads’ follows on her highly successful Johannesburg exhibition two years ago and is a continuation into the visual exploration of the culture and traditions of women. Crewe-Brown’s colour palate and highly stitched and textured canvases are continuously influenced by her travels through Africa and Asia.

Crewe-Brown lives and works in Franschhoek where her home is filled with valuable and beautiful artefacts and objects from cultures across the world.
