Exhibition: Hannes van Zyl and Ralph Johnson

Two well-known and established artists will be joining forces for an exhibition of paintings (van Zyl) and ceramics (Johnson) at the Gallery at Grande Provence, Franschhoek.

Hannes Van Zyl says “the process of art-making happens with no preconceived idea of the finished work and is always an exploration and expression of inner feelings. I paint from nature, my nature and the first manifestations of line, shape, colour and texture are very important, as these establish a kind of matrix for further exploration.” His work is represented in various South African public collections as well as local and private international collections.

Multi award-winning ceramicist Ralph Johnson’s work is included in numerous collections, amongst them the Durban Art Gallery and IZIKO Cultural History Museum Ceramic Collection. He states that: “To create a cohesive exhibition my new ceramics was initially inspired by the colours, textures and shapes in Hannes van Zyl’s paintings, but my work now shows my own exploration of mark making, textures and colours, revealing the excitement of the creative act.”

The exhibition will be opened by Dawid Ras on Sunday 19 October at 11h00 and runs until Wednesday 12 November. Gallery hours: 10h00 until 18h00 Monday – Sunday.
