02 September 2007 - The 5-star Grande Provence Estate in Franschhoek, home of numerous award winning wines, is establishing itself as a commercial centre for South African sculpture and will open the first ever ‘Sculpture Garden’ on a wine estate in the country, on Sunday 2 September 2007. ‘The Gallery’ on the Estate has already become synonymous as a leading location for South African visual arts through regular exhibitions featuring many leading and indeed emerging South African artists.
states Curator Ilse Schermers Griesel, “‘The Sculpture Garden’ will augment this and will create a viewing area of contemporary South African sculpture which will inform, inspire and delight visitors to the Estate.
‘The Sculpture Garden’ will be created by integrating space for works of sculpture, both free standing and on plinths, in the landscaped Angels Tears gardens around The Gallery, The Restaurant, The Tasting Room and The Jonkershuis. Being of a commercial nature, works will regularly be changed, thus affording the opportunity to bring together various approaches to the art of sculpture in a dynamic environment.
The following sculptors will be represented in the exhibition which will open to the public on 2 September: Angus Taylor, Anton Momberg, David Rossouw, Francois Visser, Guy du Toit, Jacques Dhont, Richard Forbes, Rossouw van der Walt, Ruhan Janse van Vuuren, Uwe Pfaff and Wilma Cruise.
